Welcome to the Parish Church of
St. John the Baptist
Axbridge

United with St. Leonard, Shipham and
St. Michael and All Angels, Rowberrow.

Whether you come to worship, or to enjoy the peace, or to marvel at the beauty of the building, welcome to Axbridge Church.

Our Churches Are Open!

The Churchwardens and PCCs of our three churches have opened our church buildings for public worship and private prayer, following the Government guidelines on hygiene and distancing.

Face Coverings should now be worn by all those attending a place of worship, as in shops and public places.

We have a mix of normal services, online services using the Zoom platform and combined services using Zoom with a small congregation in Axbridge church. If you would like to come, please let a churchwarden know. Zoom services will continue to be offered alongside whatever services there are in church.

Axbridge church is open for private prayer on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 2-6pm.  St Leonard’s Shipham is open daily from 9am-4pm.  Rowberrow Church is open by appointment, please contact  Jane Gunn.

How to find us

We are in the centre of Axbridge overlooking the north east side of the town square.

The Church Steps
The Square
Axbridge
BS26 2AP

Tel: 01934 732261

email: churchoffice@uwclub.net

A gently sloping walkway at the top of the steps from The Square provides level access to Axbridge Church.  Access without steps is available from Church Lane (off St Mary's Street but this is quite steep), Back Lane and Chestnut Avenue.  See the map for details.

The Church Rooms are opposite the church entrance, a few steps down from the top of the steps from The Square.  There is level access from the public highway to the Church Rooms but note that the 'highway' in this case is The Church Steps.

There is limited 1 hour parking in The Square; note that this is regularly patrolled, including on Sunday.  There are two car parks, in Old Church Road and Moorland Street, signposted from The Square.

Safeguarding

We take safeguarding very seriously at St John the Baptist Church.  If you are concerned about a child or vulnerable adult who is at risk of significant abuse, exploitation or neglect and this is urgent please click here for contact details of the safeguarding team at the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

This church has a safeguarding officer whose name can be found in the ‘Who’s Who’ section of this website and who can be contacted for advice and will take appropriate action following the Diocesan guidelines.
