Palm Crosses, Parish Easter Card and Holy Week at Home

We have Palm Crosses available for this coming Sunday. There is a supply in The Rectory porch which is unlocked, so people are welcome to come and collect whenever. We encourage people to think of picking up a few for those who live around you and drop them off if you are comfortable with doing that.   Please wear gloves for extra safety.  Tim will bless the crosses in the service on Sunday morning as we hold them in our hands.

We cannot distribute the Easter Card to the town this year.  It is online here so please down load it and share the link with your neighbours.

There is an excellent resource available, Holy Week at Home which includes ideas and prayers for each day between Palm Sunday and Easter Day.

COVID-19 coronavirus

In light of the updated Government guidance around non-essential contact, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have announced that public worship is suspended until further notice and churchbuildings will remain closed.  Prayers will continue to be said daily by our clergy on behalf of everyone in the community and although the buildings are closed our churches are still there to minister and serve, and to offer practical support.

You are welcome to join an online service on Sunday mornings.  Please contact Mike Day for details: mikesueday@aol.com

Please do read Tim's April 'Thought for the month' and the letter from our Bishops Peter and Ruth and listen to the message from Bishop Ruth.

How to find us

We are in the centre of Axbridge overlooking the north east side of the town square.

The Church Steps
The Square
Axbridge
BS26 2AP

Tel: 01934 732261

email: churchoffice@uwclub.net

A gently sloping walkway at the top of the steps from The Square provides level access to Axbridge Church.  Access without steps is available from Church Lane (off St Mary's Street but this is quite steep), Back Lane and Chestnut Avenue.  See the map for details.

The Church Rooms are opposite the church entrance, a few steps down from the top of the steps from The Square.  There is level access from the public highway to the Church Rooms but note that the 'highway' in this case is The Church Steps.

There is limited 1 hour parking in The Square; note that this is regularly patrolled, including on Sunday.  There are two car parks, in Old Church Road and Moorland Street, signposted from The Square.

Safeguarding

We take safeguarding very seriously at St John the Baptist Church.  If you are concerned about a child or vulnerable adult who is at risk of significant abuse, exploitation or neglect and this is urgent please click here for contact details of the safeguarding team at the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

This church has a safeguarding officer whose name can be found in the ‘Who’s Who’ section of this website and who can be contacted for advice and will take appropriate action following the Diocesan guidelines.
